New design for the ribbon view

The cycle ribbon is the centerpiece of the application. It is meant to quickly give a good visual overview of upcoming cycle phases. Some people saw something other than a path in it. So did we.

Today What it currently looks like
The cycle ribbon today: a wide ribbon with borders, day cards laid on top.
Option A String
Option A: A thin string winding behind the day cards.

A · String

Concept
The wide ribbon turns into a delicate string. It feels lighter and lets the day cards take center stage.
Stays
The familiar layout: zigzag, cards, phase colors, and the Advisor on Today.
Changes
Less visual weight. No borders that feel like boundaries.
Downside
Loses some of the solid ribbon character — feels more like a drawn line on paper.
Option B Trail
Option B: Small footprints connecting the day cards like stepping stones.

B · Dotted trail

Concept
Dotted trails connect the days like stepping stones on a hike. The cycle turns into a little journey.
Stays
The zigzag path and all day cards in place.
Changes
A more playful feel. No rigid ribbon, but a trail of individual steps.
Downside
On small screens, dots can feel busy. Needs strong contrast.
Option C Theme trail
Option C: A path with changing motifs based on the selected theme.

C · Theme trail

Concept
The trail adapts to the active theme: bottle caps in Beer-Theme, stars in EggClipse, petals in Rosé.
Stays
The fundamental day-to-day progression.
Changes
Each theme gets a unique identity on the ribbon instead of merely swapping colors.
Downside
More effort for future themes. Not every motif works well across 30+ days.
  • Beer-Theme: Coasters & foam crests
Option D Board game
Option D: Tiles like on a board game, arrows indicating the path.

D · Board game

Concept
Cards become tiles on a board game. Direction arrows guide the way; the Advisor stands as a player piece on Today.
Stays
The snake layout, the cards, and the Advisor.
Changes
The entire arrangement is rebuilt from scratch, including labels, Advisor positioning, and the onboarding tour.
Downside
Looks closer to a month calendar: a grid of cards remains a grid. But more compact.
Option E Stages
Option E: Each phase has a header, days are grouped below, a sidebar connects the stages.

E · Stages

Concept
Each phase gets a dedicated section header with day items below. A vertical bar connects the stages.
Stays
Cards, phases, and Advisor.
Changes
An entirely new view structure. Phase badges turn into section headings.
Downside
The sense of a connected path fades. It sits between logbook and calendar, and neutral days would need titles.
